Environmental Impact Assessment of Steel Production in Indonesia : A Case Study

Abstract One of the biggest energy consumers and CO2 emitters in world is steel sector. With growth infrastructure construction, output has risen year over year. Therefore, a life cycle assessment inputs outputs at each stage manufacturing process necessary to enable adoption management offer sustainable production consumption. The Life Cycle Assessment method employed this study assess environmental effects Indonesia. CML-IA baseline method, which assesses several impact categories including global warming, ozone layer depletion, acidification, eutrophication, others was used SimaPro 9.2 software calculate production. According findings, largest contributors overall are electric arc furnace, rolling mills, ladle furnaces, use chemicals, reheating LPG. entire on using functional unit 1 ton steel, 1215.17 kg eq, Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) contributes 477.37 or 39% total emissions. Based these an effort therefore required reduce consumption fuel furnace as well electricity EAF mills.
